Price Busters adding 3 more stores

By Andrew Gomes
Advertiser Staff Writer

Local discount retailer Price Busters is expanding with two new store concepts selling year-round party supplies and seasonal items for Halloween and Christmas.

Two seasonal stores, called The Seasonal Store, are slated to open July 18 at the former Nordstrom shoe store at Ward Centre and Aug. 31 at the former Sam Goody store at Windward Mall.

The party supply store, called Let's Party Hawaii, is expected to open around March at Windward Mall, while a letter of intent to lease retail space in Kapolei is expected to lead to a second party supply store opening next spring.

The planned additions represent a significant expansion for Price Busters parent company E.R.T. Sales of Hawaii Inc. founded in 1985 by Beth Tom as a costume jewelry and hair-accessory wholesaler.

Tom opened the first retail Price Busters store in 1992, and has slowly expanded the chain to seven stores, including a 17,000-square-foot flagship at Pearlridge Center.

On Friday, the Price Busters in Kailua will close to make way for a Walgreens. But a new Price Busters is slated to open next year in 'Ewa Beach at the planned retail center Laulani Village.

The two seasonal stores will close Dec. 31, but if they do well, Tom said she will seek to open others around the same time next year if suitable retail space is available.
