BEIJING — State media says China is mobilizing a 100,000-strong anti-terrorism security force to guard against threats to August's Beijing Olympics.
Police commandos, specialist units and regular army troops make up the force which was activitated following drills earlier this month, the Xinhua News Agency said Thursday. It also incudes the elite paramilitary Snow Wolf Commando Unit that has been tasked with anti-terrorism and anti-riot duties surrounding the Games, Xinhua said.
The Beijing Olympics organizing committee's security director has been quoted by the report to say the group has been activated in case of terrorist acts in the lead-up to next month's games.
