Hawaii U.S. reps disclose finances

WASHINGTON — In addition to her congressional salary, Rep. Mazie Hirono and her husband reported income last year of $45,100 to $139,100 in dividends, interest and rent, according to reports released yesterday.
Democrat Hirono, a former Hawai'i lieutenant governor and state House member, also reported receiving a state employee's pension of $52,082 last year.
Rep. Neil Abercrombie, a Hawai'i Democrat, reported his less than $200 in unearned income was interest on his University of Hawai'i credit union account.
Hirono and Abercrombie each earned an annual congressional salary last year of $165,200.
Members of Congress are required to file annual financial disclosure statements. These reports offer a broad look at lawmakers' finances. They report assets, income and debts in wide ranges and can exclude the value of primary residences, furniture and other items.
Members of Congress also are required to report trips paid for by others, and any boards or foundations they may serve on.

Major liabilities: Mortgage on Honolulu rental property, $50,000-$100,000.

Earned income: $165,200.

Major assets: University of Hawai'i Credit Union, $1,000-$15,000.
Major sources of unearned income: Interest, $1-$200.
