WHAT'S AHEAD
The Senate begins with a bill that would extend or revise nearly $55.5 billion in tax breaks for businesses and individuals, before moving to an unemployment extension measure that passed the House last week. The Senate also might consider the 2009 defense authorization bill.
The House hopes to work on the supplemental spending bill for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan before taking up the $19.2 billion NASA authorization bill for 2009. The House also might vote on a bill covering parental leave for federal employees and a bill focused on stopping abuse at residential programs for troubled teens.
