UH high jumpers gain NCAA finals

University of Hawai'i athletes Amber Kaufman and Emily Sheppard advanced to the high jump finals of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships after each cleared 5 feet, 9.75 inches in yesterday's qualifying round at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa.
The top 16 qualifiers — each of whom cleared 5-9.75 — advanced to Saturday's finals.
Sheppard, a junior from Vancouver, British Columbia, qualified on her second attempt. Kaufman, a sophomore from San Jose, Calif. who won the Western Athletic Conference title with a jump of 6 feet, 0.5 inches — qualified on her third and final attempt.
Tomorrow, UH junior Annett Wichmann will begin competing in the two-day heptathlon.
BOXING
10 TO REPRESENT HAWAI'I
Ten fighters, including two females, comprise the official Hawai'i delegation to the U.S. National Junior Olympic Boxing Championships, which will be held June 14 to 22 at the United States Olympic Education Center in Marquette, Mich.
The team will be accompanied by manager Bruce Kawano, coaches Danny Kaheaku and Nante Manangan, and official Don Tsarks. Also assisting will be Don Casil, Shane McShane III and Anthony Pagan.
The fighters are:
106 pounds — Joshua McShane (Five-O B.C.); 110 — Kurtis Hagi (Honolulu B.C.); 114 — Emmit Bolibol (Hawai'i Youth B.C.); 119 — Ansen Jordan-Armitage (Five-O B.C.); 132 — Ezra Cabang (A.P. Big Island B.C.); 145 — Keanu Sabado (Honolulu B.C.); 154 — Joshua Nakagawa (SouthSide Maui B.C.); 176 — Faleauto Manutulila (Hawai'i Youth B.C.); 119 — Chazzette Sau (SouthSide Maui B.C.) and 125 — Helena DelaCruz-Lopes (Five-O B.C).
