Ex-Warrior Owens tears ACL while with AFL team

Chad Owens, a former Roosevelt High and University of Hawai'i standout, tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee Saturday while playing for the Colorado Crush against the Grand Rapids Rampage in an Arena Football League game.
Grand Rapids won, 84-65.
Owens was injured late in the third quarter on a kickoff return, and will miss the remainder of the season for Colorado (4-10).
He finished the game with five receptions for 48 yards, including a 20-yard touchdown pass from John Dutton in the third period. Owens also had 171 yards on kickoff returns.
For the season, Owens ranked fourth on the Crush in receiving yards (494) and touchdowns (10). He ranked second in kickoff return yards (590).
On June 2, Owens (UH 2001-'04) scored five touchdowns in a 73-65 loss to the New York Dragons. He finished with four touchdown receptions and returned a kickoff 56 yards for a score.
