Soccer: Injured captain returns; Kai also on US team

CHICAGO — Team captain Christie Rampone is one of three veterans returning from injury to the U.S. women's team that will play at the 2008 Peace Queen Cup in South Korea.
Coach Pia Sundhage also chose now-healthy midfielder Aly Wagner and goalkeeper Nicole Barnhart for the final 22-player roster.
Natasha Kai, a former Kahuku High and University of Hawai'i star, also is on the team.
Defender Rampone is coming off gall bladder surgery three weeks ago. Barnhart had arthroscopic knee surgery a little less than a month ago, and Wagner has recovered from double-hernia surgery to earn her roster spot.
The final 22 features 11 members of the United States' 2004 Olympic gold medal squad.
All three of the top scorers for the United States were chosen: Abby Wambach, Kai and Lindsay Tarpley.
Also in the U.S. group for the tournament will be Brazil, Italy and Australia. The other group will have South Korea, New Zealand, Canada and Argentina.
The U.S. women open the tournament June 15 against Australia, then face archrival Brazil on June 17 for the first time since the Brazilians routed the Americans in last year's World Cup semifinal. The Americans finish group play against Italy on June 19.
