MUNICH, Germany — Hawai'i's Michelle Wie shot a 5-under-par 67 yesterday to place sixth at the Ladies German Open with her first sub-par tournament in nearly two years.

Wie finished with a 14-under 274 total, seven strokes behind South Korean teenager Amy Yang, who shot 67—267 for her first victory as a professional.

"I'm glad that I shot under par; it feels good," said Wie, whose presence helped to attract almost 17,000 spectators to the remote Golfpark Gut Hausern course over the tournament week.

Wie's previous sub-par tournament came at the Evian Masters in July 2006 when she finished tied for second. Since then she had gone 13 tournaments over-par, including seven missed cuts.

"I feel a lot more confident about my game," said Wie, 18, who is taking the semester off in her freshman year at Stanford. "With that being said, a person's greed is always wanting something more. I'm very happy with my score, but at the same time, I could have done better."

Wie started her round yesterday by chipping in for eagle at the par-4 first. She added birdies at the par-5 third and par-4 seventh before a bogey at the par-4 ninth put her at 3-under 33 at the turn.

Following a stretch of seven straight pars, Wie closed with birdies at the par-4 17th and par-5 18th.

"It's been a really long time since I shot that score," said Wie, who won $13,614. "So now I know what it feels like and can put it in the memory bank. ... It feels like it's coming along. It feels like I'm recovering, getting back on track and getting back to where I used to be."
