Advertiser Staff

Kapolei's Allisen Corpuz shot an even-par 72 yesterday to capture the girls 10- to 11-year-old division in the Optimist International Junior Golf Championships at PGA National Resort and Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.

Corpuz entered the day a stroke behind co-leaders Marijosse Navarro of Mexico and Ornnicha Konsunthea of Thailand. But she won by two shots as Konsunthea shot 75 to finish second and Navarro 76 to take third.

Corpuz's three-round total was 76-75-72—223. Konsunthea shot 75-75-75—225 and Navarro fired 79-71-76—226.

In June, Corpuz became the youngest golfer to qualify for the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links (10 years, 3 months to previous record-holder Michelle Wie's 10 years, 7 months).

In the boys 10-11 division, 'Aiea's Donny Hopoi (79-76-69—224) shared third, 10 behind the winner.

Hundreds of international golfers ages 10 to 18 play in the annual event, now in its 13th year at PGA National.
