Kaitlin Kiyan, former Waipahu resident, is having a hank of "Hair" again this summer as one of the tribe prepping for an Aug. 7 launch at the Delacorte Theatre in New York's Central Park. It's pretty much a reprise of last summer's 40th anniversary revival — you know, the love-rock opera about a man drafted for the Vietnam War, peopled by hippies advocating love and peace — with anthems including "Good Morning Starshine," "Let the Sunshine In" and "The Age of Aquarius." If you're in The Big Apple, go ... it's free. Kiyan's mom, Carol, took in a preview recently with show vet Mary Gutzi.

Look for Kiyan and her "Hair" cast members in the July issue of Vogue magazine. ...

And Kaitlin found omiyage — macadamia nuts and norimaki — in her dressing room; they were gifts from Loretta Ables Sayre, Bloody Mary in "South Pacific." ...

ISLAND CHATTER: Speaking of Ables Sayre, she's had a host of locals popping in to see her and the Tony Award-winning musical at Lincoln Center's Vivian Beaumont Theatre. Like John Rampage, Darah and Denby Dung, Michelle Balthazar, Theresa Riedman, Wally and Louise Ho, Dean Christopher and Margaret Cho. No, not the comedian. ...

She also took part in "Broadway Barks," a fundraiser created by Mary Tyler Moore and Bernadette Peters to help dogs in shelters get adopted, and met a clutch of Broadway troupers, including Peters, who immediately let Ables Sayre know that they had a mutual friend: Stacie Yoshioka, daughter of Emmett and Judy Yoshioka, who has been Peters' personal trainer for years. Ah, small world. ...

WHEE, THE PEOPLE: On a recent night off from performing in Diamond Head Theatre's "Wizard of Oz," Camille Domaloan Michel and daughter Chelsea Lynn Michel, who play multiple roles in the musical, found themselves in the theater's empty parking lot, literally going around in circles. "My odometer was getting ready to turn over to 100,000 miles, so my husband and I loaded our three kids into the 'mommy van' so we could watch it happen together," said Camille. "Chelsea and I have been at the theater so much in the last three months, I think the van drove itself there." ...

Emme Tomimbang and her EMME Inc. have partnered with KHON-2 to present a two-part "Leadership Moments: The Everyday Courage of Hawai'i's Women," airing at 9 p.m. Thursday and 4 p.m. Saturday on KHON. Channel 2 weather anchor Trini Kaopuiki and YWCA president and CEO Cheryl Ka'uhane Lupenui co-host. The first installment features Linda Coble, Congresswoman Patsy T. Mink, Beatrice Krauss, Cobey Black, Carol Ai, Faye Kurren and others; the second taps Connie Chung, Gwen Pacarro, Dr. Donnis Thompson and Jenai Sullivan Wall. Tomimbang, herself a YWCA honoree, has been a longtime observer of the work of these outstanding women. "I'm honored to be sharing these stories with the rest of Hawai'i," she said of her producer-writer role on this effort. Tomimbang and Lynne Waters narrate. ...

Singer Jordan Segundo and manager Nancy Bernal were in Los Angeles recently and were able to attend a "So You Think You Can Dance" taping at CBS. Segundo also appeared at a talent seminar for singers ages 7 through 17, who wanted some advice about auditioning for "American Idol." Island singers Maka'ala Perry and Colby Benson were part of the seminar. ...

HERE 'N' THERE: If restaurant biz is sluggish around town, what with the struggling economy and all, Roy Yamaguchi's flagship outpost, Roy's in Hawai'i Kai, doesn't seem to be hurting. In fact, the downstairs bar, outdoor patio and upstairs dining room are packed, perhaps buoyed by the recent reopening after renovations. The kitchen has been completely overhauled, according to restaurant manager Zameer Maliai, but the menu still boasts the range of classics, like the blackened 'ahi, the butterfish, and yes, that wonderful meatloaf. Noise level seems to be down a bit, too, and lighting is up a skosh. And the buzz is, Roy's is ichi-ban, still. ...

No sum reported, but the July 4 reopening launch, tied to the East O'ahu Fourth of July fireworks fete, will benefit the Go For Broke national Education Center (Hawai'i Regional Office), after expenses are deducted. ...

At an Anaheim stop, before heading to New York, I noticed a new Roy's at the GardenWalk — a convenient hop from the Hilton Anaheim (nicely reappointed, after a renovation that's still under way), where we stayed, and an alternative to Disney dining. Open since March, this Roy's is one of the GardenWalk anchors — with P.F. Chang's, McCormick & Schmick's Grille, Cheesecake Factory, California Pizza Kitchen, Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. already opening, and more to come — like Hawaiian Barbecue and Johnny Rockets. ...
