Pro-rail group releases list of supporters

Major rail project proponent Support Rail Transit today released a list of construction trade groups that are behind the effort.

The founding organizations, each members of the Hawaii Building and Construction Trades Council, include:

Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Local 1

Carpet, Linoleum and Soft Tile Local 1926

District Council 50

Drywall, Tapers & Finishers Local 1944

Elevator Constructors Local 126

Glaziers & Glass Workers Local 1889

Hawaii Building and Construction Trades Council, AFL-CIO

IBEW Local Union 1186

International Association of Heat and Frost Insulators and Asbestos Workers Local 132

Iron Workers Local 625

Laborers' International Union of North America Local 368

Operating Engineers Local Union No. 3

Operative Plasterers' and Cement Masons' IA Local 630

Painters Local Union 1791

Plumbers & Fitters Local 675

Roofers, Waterproofers and Allied Workers Union Local 221

Sheetmetal Workers IA Local 293

Support Rail Transit also announced that it has more than 391 individuals registered as members.

Support Rail Transit said it's primary mission is to educate the public about the benefits of the rail transit project and compare and contrast these benefits with the claims of those who oppose publicly funded transit.

Other pro-rail groups include the Hawaii Carpenters and Go Rail Go. They're opposed by Stop Rail now, Honolulutraffic.com and other anti-rail interests.
