Big Island firefighters checking hotspots in brushfire

Big Island firefighters have contained a 25-acre brushfire in Ka'u, makai of Highway 11 in Honu'apo near the 61 mile marker.
The fire began at 4:43 a.m. Sunday and was under control by noon, firefighters said. Crews are still on scene checking hotspots.
The state-owned land is mostly tall dry grass and mature kiawe and coconut trees.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Firefighters responded to the fire with a bulldozer, two engines, two tankers and a helicopter.
