An O'ahu grand jury has indicted Manuel Taboada, identified as a local minister, on charges of sexually molesting an underage female member of his ministry over a period of eight years.
Details of the case were sketchy, but Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Vickie Kapp said in court that Taboada was arrested by police Monday and is being held in lieu of $2 million bail.
Kapp also said Taboada is also the subject of a "similar investigation" in Portland, Ore., where "similar allegations" have been made against him.
Kapp said the alleged victim in the case was a member of a family that belonged to Taboado's ministry.
She was allegedly molested from the age of 12 until she was 20, Kapp said.
Taboada "told her the ministry would fall apart" if she told anyone what he was doing to her, Kapp said.
