Wahiawa bicyclist killed by hit-and-run driver identified

The city Medical Examiner's office has identified the bicyclist who was killed by a hit-and-run driver early Wednesday morning as 18-year-old David Wayne Aldridge of Wahiawa.
A sergeant with the Vehicular Homicide Division said Aldridge was riding on the shoulder of the road when a vehicle, believed to be a red flatbed truck, veered onto the the shoulder and struck him.
The incident occurred at 1:35 a.m. Aldridge, who had been wearing a helmet, was found by a driver who was passing by.
An ambulance crew initially took Aldridge to Wahiawa General Hospital in critical condition. He was later transported to The Queen's Medical Center, where he died.
Police are asking for the public's help in trying to find the driver of the red flatbed truck that fled the scene.

Speed may have been a factor in the crash, but it is unknown if drugs or alcohol were involved, police said.
Cause of death will be released later today.
Aldridge is the 29th fatality on O'ahu this year compared with 41 at the same time last year.
