Leilehua's Tokuda honored by NFL

Nolan Tokuda, head coach of the defending Division I football state champion Leilehua, has been selected as one of 51 prep football coaches from across the country to attend the Eighth Annual NFL Youth Football Summit beginning today as part of the NFL's Hall of Fame Weekend in Canton, Ohio.
Tokuda, who coached the Mules to their first state title with a 20-16 upset of perennial power Saint Louis, will take in the educational seminars held at Kent State University's Stark Professional Education and Conference Center.
Among those providing insight to participants are three-time Super Bowl champion Riki Ellison, Cleveland Browns senior vice president and general manager Phil Savage and Bob Colgate, of the National Federation of State High School Associations.
GOLF
KIM TIED FOR 14TH
Former Big Island resident Kimberly Kim shot a 1-over-par 72 and is tied for 14th after the first round of the U.S. Girls' Junior Championship yesterday at West Hartford, Conn.
Other Hawai'i golfers competing at the Hartford Golf Club were: Alina Ching (77, t-83rd), Anna Jang (77, t-83rd) and Cyd Okino (83, t-132nd).
Kyle Roig of Pembroke Pines, Fla., leads at 4-under 67.
KEILEY TIED FOR 13TH
Justin Keiley of Haiku, Maui shot an even-par 72 and is tied for 13th after the first round of the U.S. Boys' Junior Amateur yesterday at Shoal Creek, Ala.
Honolulu's Brett Komoto shot 76 and was tied for 66th.
Jorge Fernandez Valdes of Argentina leads at 7-under 65.
BASKETBALL
TEAM IN TOURNAMENT
The "Hawai'i Select" girls basketball travel team will start action today in the 40-team, 17-under division of the Vision Sports Main Event National Tournament in Las Vegas.
The tournament runs daily through Saturday. Team members are:
Kanisha Bello (Kamehameha-Hawai'i), Keely Bitanga (Roosevelt), Pualei Furtado (Kamehameha), Natasha Helsham ('Aiea), Kamie Imai (Waiakea), Jordan Kealoha (Mid-Pacific), Kylie Sato (McKinley), Brydgette Tatupu-Leopoldo (Farrington), Mikela Thoemmes (Roosevelt), Kourtni Thomas (Kalaheo), Lindsey Wong (Kamehameha). The head coach is Chico Furtado, assisted by Dave Furtado.
BASEBALL
HILO TEAM ELIMINATED
Nevada ousted Hilo, 2-1, in the Big League (ages 16-18) West Regional Tournament yesterday at Silverdale, Wash.
Kolten Wong and Brian Alben each had two hits for the Hawai'i team, which finished the tournament 2-2.
CORRECTION
TINMAN TRIATHLON
Five people have completed all 28 Tinman Triathlons. Finishing Sunday's 28th race were Amy Harpstrite (2:17:20.7), Donohue Fujii (2:34:24.3), Russell Goo (3:00:27.7), Linda Kaiser (3:04:42.1) and Leland How (3:55:20.7).
