Nearly 2,000 Hawaii Electric Light Co. customers were affected by three separate power outages today.

Seven hundred customers at Hawaiian Paradise Park lost electrical power at 1:13 p.m. due to equipment failure along Maku'u Drive, said HELCO spokesman Kevin Waltjen. Power was restored to 450 customers at 2:41 p.m. after repair crews isolated the problem. The remaining customers had power by 3:54 p.m., added Waltjen.

A tree falling on power lines near the intersection of Puainako and Kino'ole streets knocked out service to 600 customers earlier in the day. The affected area included the Waiakea Center, Prince Kuhio Plaza, Puainako Town Center and KTA Superstores, said Waltjen. Power was restored to all but three customers at 3:18 p.m. Full service was restored at 4:45 p.m.

The third outage at 3:47 p.m. in Hawi affected 600 customers. Power was restored at 5:50 p.m. Waltjen said the outage was caused by equipment failure near Pohakea Bay.
