Roads reopened after critical bike accidents

Advertiser Staff

Both Fort Weaver Road near Keaunui Drive and Kamehameha Highway near the Dole Plantation have been reopened to traffic following separate bicycle accidents that left two men in critical condition at area hospitals this morning.

The first accident occurred shortly after 1 a.m. on Kamehameha Highway when a truck, believed to be red in color, struck an 18-year-old man but never stopped to help. The truck was last seen heading toward the North Shore. Police said the truck's front end should have extensive damage to it.

The second accident occurred shortly at about 4:30 a.m. when a man in his 40s was struck by a white van. Initial reports are the bicyclist was traveling into traffic.

The first accident shut down a five-mile stretch of Kamehameha Highway for about three hours, the second closed Fort Weaver Road during morning rush hour for about two hours.

More information on both accidents will be coming shortly.
