Hawaii's Ching not on U.S. team

The U.S. Olympic men's soccer team was announced yesterday, with up-and-coming stars Freddy Adu and Jozy Altidore headlining the squad.
Hale'iwa native and Kamehameha alum Brian Ching was not on the roster. Men's teams in the Olympics have an under-23 limit. However, each team is allowed three "overage" exceptions, and three-time World Cup veteran Brian McBride, along with goalkeeper Brad Guzan and defender Michael Parkhurst were the picks for the 2008 Games.
The U.S. plays Japan Aug. 7, the Netherlands Aug. 10, concludes group play against 1996 gold medalist and 2005 Under-20 World Cup champion Nigeria Aug. 13.
