Pali paving called off today, to resume Monday

A repaving project in the Honolulu-bound lanes of Pali Highway, which caused a massive traffic jam yesterday and which was to continue today, was called off due to inclement weather.
The state Department of Transportation said the work will resume Monday, from Puiwa Road to Wyllie Street, weather permitting. The two right lanes will be closed Monday morning, with one of those lanes reopening toward the afternoon.
The Kailua-bound lanes will have a similar repaving in that area on Tuesday.
Tammy Mori, spokeswoman for the DOT, said electronic message signs today along the highway alerted motorists to the change in paving plans. However, many motorists didn't notice, because more than the usual number of vehicles took the right turn at Castle Junction and went to Likelike Highway to cross the Ko'olau mountains.
Originally, two lanes in the town-bound direction were going to be closed from 8:30 to about 10:30 a.m. today, and one lane was going to remain closed until 3 p.m.
