Maui's Hana Highway was closed for about 30 minutes yesterday due to a cane-field fire near Baldwin Beach in Paia.

The 5:18 p.m. fire was reported under control at 6:08 p.m.

Officials said the fire was contained to a seven-acre field, located on the makai side of Hana Highway between Baldwin Beach Park and the Paia Youth and Cultural Center. Fire Capt. Colin Yamamoto said light trade winds helped prevent the fire from jumping to an adjacent, grassy field.

No injuries were reported, and no structures were damaged. Cause of the fire is under investigation.
