Things to do today around Oahu

Advertiser Staff

The 7th annual Hula Ho'olauna Aloha competition and demonstration takes place today at the Waikiki Shell. The free event runs from 3 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. with hula halau from Hawaii and Japan.

If you're into crafts, the Pacific Handcrafters Guild Summer Festival is being held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Thomas Square and is also free to public. It's a great chance to find art, jewelry, wood, clothing and more.

For kids and kids at heart who love anime and comics, get to the Kaimuki library for the free 2 p.m. meet and greet with Audra Furuichi and Scott Yoshinaga, creators of the online anime comic "nemu, nemu." The creates will give a demonstration and talk about how to get started in online anime.

If you're looking for something even more laidback, hit the Shore Bird Restaurant & Beach Bar in Waikiki for Steel Guitar Sundays.

The smooth sounds start at 2 p.m. Grab a mai tai, take a chair and take in the scenery.

Not a bad way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
