Two veterans cemeteries and a new veterans center will get $645,000 released by Gov. Linda Lingle for various design and construction projects.

The West Hawai'i Veterans Cemetery on the Big Island will get $200,000 to build an area for internment services and a columbaria, a news release said.

"The design and bid for the project are needed to qualify for an estimated $4.35 million in construction funds from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs State Cemetery Grants Program," the release said. "Costs for the design and construction of this phase are eligible for full reimbursement by the VA State Cemetery Grants Program."

The Hawai'i State Veterans Cemetery in Kane'ohe will get $195,000 to improve its drainage system and to repair road cracks.

The remaining $250,000 will be a grant-in-aid to the non-profit group Moloka'i Veterans Caring for Veterans to help build a prefabricated center to serve about 600 veterans on Moloka'i.
