TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

"The Bachelorette" finale, 7 p.m., ABC; follow-up at 9 p.m. DeAnna Pappas is down to her final two guys now. There's Jesse, 26, the Colorado snowboarder, and Jason, 31, the account executive now living in Kirkland, Wash. In some editions of "The Bachelor," none of this would be important. The previous bachelor sifted through 25 bright and beautiful women, settled on two (one of them DeAnna), then rejected both. The women, however, have been better choosers. Maybe DeAnna, 26, a Georgia real-estate agent, will come up with a winner.

TONIGHT'S MIGHT-SEE

"The War of the World," 10 p.m., PBS. The brutality of World War II was fierce on all sides, historian Niall Ferguson says in this disturbing hour, the midsection of a three-week series. The Russians had a history of brutalizing their own people, he says. The Americans bombed cities more for revenge than for military purposes. Japanese soldiers were shot after surrendering — setting up the fight-to-the-death scenario. This is a grim picture, told with vivid examples and sharp use of visuals.

OF NOTE

"The Big Bang Theory," 7 p.m., CBS. The guys have always been considered phenomenons; now, a 15-year-old gets all the attention. In a funny rerun, Sheldon tries to divert him.

"Nashville Star," 8 p.m., NBC. Last week, Alyson Gilbert was ousted and the eight remaining acts each sang two songs — if you can consider the second one, with its silly, 45-second time limit, as a song. Tonight, the show speeds up by dropping two acts.

"The Art of Failure: Chuck Connelly Not For Sale," 6 p.m., HBO. Once a hot young artist, Chuck Connelly found ways to push success away. He berated his patrons, drank, grumbled. Here's a portrait of an unlikable man, digging deeper into trouble. And still, a final twist nudges him toward survival and a new phase.

"CSI: Miami," 9 p.m., CBS. Horatio learns that Ryan has a connection to a suspect.
