Look, up in the sky! It's a big night of fireworks displays all around the island! It is, after all, the Fourth of July, and folks must get their fill of things that go BANG! in an ooohh-aahhhh way.

Where to go to see those public displays of explosions? The biggies are over Magic Island, sponsored by Ala Moana Center; in Kailua; at Schofield Barracks; and at Maunalua Bay, a new event.

THE BIGGEST

Ala Moana's celebration is billed as Hawai'i's largest fireworks show, and it's preceded by top entertainment at the shopping center. The schedule:

CENTERSTAGE

  • Noon: John Cruz

  • 2 p.m.: Holunape

  • 4 p.m. Kristian Lei

    MAKAI-'EWA PARKING DECK

5 p.m.: Bruce Shimabukuro, The Makaha Sons, Ten Feet, Willie K, Raiatea Helm

The fireworks show begins at 8:30 p.m., with free open seating at the makai/'ewa parking deck, on a first-come, first-served basis.

    OUT WAHIAWA WAY

Billy Ray Cyrus, dad of Miley Cyrus and an actor/country star in his own right, headlines the entertainment at the annual Fourth of July Spectacular at Sills and Desiderio fields, Schofield Barracks. He performs at 5:05 p.m.

Other attractions include a Native American tribal powwow (10 a.m.-5 p.m.); crafts and new products bazaar (10 a.m.-6 p.m.); puppet show (11:45 a.m.); eating contests (12:30 p.m.); and pony rides, game booths, other rides and inflatables, and food booths.

The fireworks go off at 9 p.m.

The Spectacular is free and open to the public. www.mwrarmyhawaii.com.

    A PARADE, TOO

Kailua's 62nd annual Fourth of July parade — themed Hau'oli La Hanau (Happy Birthday) America! — begins at 10 a.m. at the corner of 'Oma'o Street and Kainalu Drive.

Expect to see nonprofit, community and business groups, politicos, military and veterans groups, the Royal Hawaiian Band, the Celtic Pipes & Drums, and horse units participating. Kailua business activist Jack Richardson is the grand marshal.

The fireworks display at Kailua Bay begins at 8 p.m., after a 6 p.m. aerobatic demonstration.

    THE NEWBIE

Residents of East O'ahu won't have far to drive for an aerial fireworks display. This year, the Independence Day at Maunalua Bay Foundation launches its big celebration — from 2 to 9 p.m. across from Roy's and Outback Steakhouse in Hawai'i Kai — with a full lineup of entertainment, keiki games, food and craft booths and more.

The fireworks go off at 8 p.m.

    On the entertainment lineup:

  • 2 p.m.: Halau Hula 'O Namakahulali (kumu hula Shirley Recca)

  • 2:50 p.m.: Greg Hammer Band
