KALIHI
Volunteers will clean up 2 Adopt-a-Stream sites

Volunteers will clean up two sites Saturday as part of the city's Adopt-a-Stream program.

The cleanups are set for 8:30 to 11 a.m. at Banyan Courtyard, next to Kaumakapili Church, and at the Honolulu Community College parking lot on Kokea Street, near Kapalama Stream.

Police, Boy Scouts, business owners, residents and others are expected to participate.

"When it rains, storm water percolates though accumulated garbage, some of it toxic, which goes untreated into local streams," said Adopt-a-Stream program coordinator Iwalani Sato. "This is one of the biggest water-quality problems on O'ahu and something most residents can do something about."

Adopt-a-Stream will provide supplies and coordinate volunteer work at the sites.
