Washington State senior guard Derrick Low was named to the John R. Wooden Award Midseason Top 30 list over the weekend.

Low, an 'Iolani School graduate, is now a candidate for the John R. Wooden Award, which goes to the nation's top men's college basketball player. He is also eligible to be named to the 10-player Wooden Award All-America Team.

The final awards will be announced in late March.

Low leads the No. 9-ranked Cougars in scoring with 14.1 points per game.

Tyler Hansbrough of North Carolina and Brandon Rush of Kansas are the only returning players from last season's All-America team.

The Midseason Top 30 list includes six freshmen: Michael Beasley of Kansas State, Eric Gordon of Indiana, James Harden of Arizona State, Kevin Love of UCLA, O.J. Mayo of USC and Derrick Rose of Memphis.

Former Texas player Kevin Durant won the John R. Wooden Award as a freshman last season.
