The search for the second annual "Hawai'i's Latino Idol" is under way. Prospects must be of Hispanic or Latino descent and perform in Spanish — and be 18 and older. The deadline to apply is Feb. 29.

The winner will receive $1,000 and a chance to record a CD. The idol will appear at various Hispanic events throughout the year. The Hawaii International Film Festival is throwing a party to let supporters experience the excitement of the 80th Academy Awards, Feb. 24 at the Halekulani hotel.

Guests will watch the awards on large screens courtesy of ABC affiliate KITV after walking down a red carpet at the Halekulani.
