Monster Jam World Finals: The annual monster truck event is the largest touring motorsports property in the world where 45 monster-truck teams converge. The championship event consists of racing and freestyle segments, and the winner of each is considered the series champion in that division for the coming year. City of Light Jazz Festival: Jazz musicians nationwide congregate at Hill Park in Summerlin for two days (dates to be announced) of music with a distinct jazz and blues flavour. Performances on the outdoor stage in the park create great atmosphere and a friendly vibe. 43rd annual Academy of Country Music Awards: The event honors country music's top musicians as well as the industry's emerging talent. 5 p.m. MGM Grand Garden Arena. $100-$300. www.ticketmaster.com.

The Lion Habitat at MGM Grand Hotel & Casino was built as a showcase for appreciation and education of the lion. Visitors can watch through glass as the lions feed, play, groom themselves and sleep. Lions sleep an average of 18 to 20 hours a day, reach 8 feet in length and as adults weigh more than 500 pounds.

When they're not on display, the pride lives on an 8.5-acre ranch 12 miles from the MGM Grand, cared for by animal trainer and conservationist Keith Evans.

The lions spend around six hours on display and are rotated throughout the day. The staff switches the lions from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. when no animals are on display. There are 31 lions in all.

The lion has been a part of the MGM heritage for many years, beginning with the legendary Leo, whose roars have welcomed generations of moviegoers to epics of the silver screen. 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Free.
