Soccer: Adu picked for US Olympic qualifying camp

CHICAGO ) — Freddy Adu, Benny Feilhaber and Jozy Altidore were among 24 players picked today for the U.S. under-23 team's last training camp before Olympic qualifying next month.

Six Europe-based players were selected. Adu plays for Benfica in Portugal and Feilhaber plays for England's Derby. Also picked were Wolfburg defender Kamani Hill, Hannover midfielder Sal Zizzo, Hammarby forward Charlie Davies and Esbjerg goalkeeper Tally Hall. One player is based in Mexico — San Luis defender Michael Orozco — and the rest come from Major League Soccer.

Ten of the players have appeared for the U.S. national team.

They will train in Bradenton, Fla., from Saturday through March 9, when the roster will be cut to 20. The United States is based in Tampa, Fla., for the first round of qualifying from North and Central America and the Caribbean and will play in Group A, facing Cuba on March 11, Panama two days later and Honduras on March 15.

Canada, Guatemala, Haiti and Mexico are in Group B, which plays in Carson, Calif. The top two teams in each group advance to the semifinals on March 20 in Nashville, Tenn., and the semifinal winners qualify for the Beijing Olympics.

Goalkeepers: Dominic Cervi (Chicago), Tally Hall (Esbjerg, Denmark), Chris Seitz (Salt Lake).

Defenders: Maurice Edu (Toronto), Hunter Freeman (New York), Kamani Hill (Wolfsburg, Germany), Patrick Ianni (Houston), Michael Orozco (San Luis, Mexico), Mike Randolph (Los Angeles), Nathan Sturgis (Salt Lake), Marvell Wynne (Toronto).

Midfielders: Arturo Alvarez (Dallas), Benny Feilhaber (Derby, England), Eddie Gaven (Columbus), Stuart Holden (Houston), Sacha Kljestan (Chivas USA), Dax McCarty (Dallas), Robbie Rogers (Columbus), Sal Zizzo (Hannover, Germany).

Forwards: Freddy Adu (Benfica, Portugal), Jozy Altidore (New York), Chad Barrett (Chicago), Charlie Davies (Hammarby, Sweden), Robbie Findley (Salt Lake).
