A 30-year-old man involved in a more than seven-hour standoff with Maui police was being held today at Maui Community Correctional Center on a retake warrant for parole violation and add-on charges pending.

Kadon Ioane Zimmerman surrendered to police at 12:15 a.m. today, ending the standoff at the Harbor Lights apartment complex in Kahului which began at 4:45 p.m. yesterday.

Zimmerman allegedly fired one shot during the incident but no injuries were reported.

According to Hawai'i Criminal Justice Data Center records, Zimmerman has 14 prior convictions including felony family abuse.

Maui police spokesman Lt. Wallace Tom said Zimmerman was armed with a shotgun and pistol. Zimmerman surrendered the shotgun at 9:30 p.m. and the pistol at midnight before giving up to police, Tom said.

The standoff started at 4:45 p.m. when police attempted to arrest Zimmerman on the parole-revocation warrant. After spotting the officers, Zimmerman ran into a unit in "D" building, armed himself and fired one round, police said.

Possible add-on charges against Zimmerman stemming from standoff will likely include being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition.
