Sheila Coronel will be the keynote speaker for the Freedom of Information Day luncheon at 11:30 a.m. March 17 at the Hawai'i Imin International Conference Center, East-West Center.

Coronel, director of the Toni Stabile Center for Investigative Journalism at Columbia University, will give a speech titled, "Endangered Watchdogs? Investigative Reporting in Trouble Times."

The Ah Jook Ku Lecture Series is sponsored by the Honolulu Community-Media Council, East-West Center, Society of Professional Journalists, University of Hawai'i School of Communications, Student Equity Excellence and Diversity (SEED) and University of Hawai'i West O'ahu.

Coronel has reported on the wind-down of the Marcos regime in the Philippines including human-rights abuses, the growing democratic movement, and the election of Corazon Aquino
