UH women win 800 freestyle relay at WAC Championships

The University of Hawai'i women's 800-yard freestyle relay team placed first yesterday at the Western Athletic Conference Championships in San Antonio, Texas.

Emma Berry, Elliko Heimbach, Alyssa Manlow and Ricarda Schellenberg won with a time of 7 minutes, 28.46 seconds. Nevada was second in 7:30.73.

The UH team of Karli Rice, Hanna Yttring, Brianna De Palezieux and Victoria Tan finished fifth in the 200-yard medley relay in 1:45.08. Nevada won in 1:42.81.

After one day of competition, Nevada leads with 74 points, followed by Hawai'i with 68 and Northern Arizona with 66.

WATER POLO

UH TOPS ARIZONA STATE

Kelly Mason scored six goals as fourth-ranked Hawai'i defeated eighth-ranked Arizona State, 13-12, yesterday in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation women's match at Tempe, Ariz.

Anna Sieprath added three goals and Carmen Eggens had two for the Rainbow Wahine (6-2 overall, 3-0 MPSF).

Freshman goalie Serena Bredin had seven stops for UH, including three in the decisive fourth quarter.

Addison McGrath scored a school-record seven goals for the Sun Devils (8-5, 0-2).

UH will next compete in the UC Irvine Invitational Saturday.
