24 arrested on Big Island last week for DUI

Big Island police have reported arresting 24 motorists for drunk driving last week.
Seven of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash and one was under the age of 21, the Hawaii County Police Department said in a news release.
So far this year, there have been 189 DUI arrests on the Big Island compared with 167 during the same period last year, an increase of 13 percent. There have been 257 major accidents so far this year compared with 309 during the same period last year, a decrease of 17 percent.
So far this year, there have been seven traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with seven during the same period last year.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
