WHEELER ARMY AIRFIELD, Hawai'i — The Army has convened the first of two courts-martial in the death of an unidentified Iraqi civilian.

Spc. Christopher Shore of Georgia is on trial in the June 23 death. His case is being heard by a panel of nine officers and enlisted personnel at Wheeler Army Airfield.

Shore has pleaded innocent to the crime.

He says he was ordered to finish off the man by platoon leader Sgt. 1st Class Trey Corrales of San Antonio who he says had shot the Iraqi man several times. Shore says he intentionally missed the man when he fired his weapon.

Corrales faces a separate court-martial April 22.
