A fashionista find at Kailua Square

At first glance, Antiques and Treasures, in Kailua Square next to Cinnamon's, looks like a shop for antique furniture and knickknacks. Step inside, however, and one discovers clothing, accessories and a fabulous collection of costume and fine jewelry. It's a co-op of 20 vendors, so the merchandise represents the taste of many different, and experienced, collectors.
A smattering of treasures that caught my eye: Miriam Haskell costume and fine jewelry from the '40s and '50s; handbags from Prada, Chanel, Dior and Gucci; a Tiffany silver brush; Ming's jewelry; funky Fendi polka-dot high-heeled slides; a classic Chanel tweed suit; wonderful cloches and other vintage hats, as well as a jam-packed rack containing clothing from Fendi, Celine, Escada and Carolina Herrera.
A great time to go would be during the open house from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. tomorrow, when vendors will display a trunk show of merchandise that's not usually available. Regular store hours: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sundays. 263-1177.
27 DRESSES
The Wedding Cafe will present what it refers to as a "Bridal Couture Fashion Show" at 6 p.m. Sunday at the Bridal Boutique, 614 Cooke St. The show features 27 dresses for brides, bridesmaids and flower girls — a nod to the current Katherine Heigl hit movie. The Wedding Cafe also will give away a wedding gown valued at up to $2,000, but only after a bride-to-be wins a series of wedding challenges. Swag will be offered by participating wedding vendors such as Flaunt, Les Saisons, Aloha Cakery and Prestige Valet.
Reservations are required. Call 988-1005, e-mail love@theweddingcafe.net or visit www.theweddingcafe.net.
SPRING ARRIVES AT NEIMAN MARCUS
In a nod to the fashions and beauty of the spring season, Neiman Marcus Ala Moana is holding a variety of trunk shows this weekend.
Oregon-based jewelry designer Julie Wong brings her latest collection, inspired by the forests of the Pacific Northwest, incorporating pearls, semiprecious and precious stones. She'll be in the designer jewelry department from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today.
Need just the right underpinnings to wear with that feminine frock or those fabulous jeans? Try 'em on at the Le Mystere fit event from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. tomorrow.
Get sexy with the fashions of Roberto Cavalli, the edgy Italian designer. His representative, Allison Moore, will be on hand from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. tomorrow in designer sportswear to help with wardrobing.
The annual Neiman Marcus Wedding Event will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. tomorrow. There will be plenty of vendors to answer a bride's questions regarding wedding favors, stationery, flowers, photography and catering. There's even a champagne tasting, along with informal modeling from 1 to 3 p.m.
FAREWELL, MORGAN BERET
Add to the sad list of local fashion businesses closing: Morgan Beret in Kahala Mall. The lovely lingerie and bedding store that brought us La Perla, Simone Perele, Vera Wang and Chantelle quietly closed its doors at the end of January. We haven't been able to confirm whether owner Julie Haskell will be opening elsewhere.
U FASHION BLOG
We're putting the finishing touches on the spring issue of U mag: It will be out March 7 — the same day Nordstrom and 30 other retailers open at Ala Moana Center. What a day for fashion in Honolulu!
But you don't have to wait until March to get a fix on fashion. Check out our new blogs at www.umaghawaii.com. Among them: Stephanie Ortega offers insights into her world as a contestant for Miss Hawaii. I share my thoughts on New York Fashion Week and Coco Chanel. And there's always more coming soon as members of The Honolulu Advertiser's Fashion Forum and I blog about Island fashion, beauty and whatever's on our minds at the moment.
