DeKALB, Ill. — Northern Illinois University has cancelled all of its athletics competitions — both home and away — that was scheduled for this weekend after a campus shooting yesterday that killed five students and wounded 16.

Direct of Athletics Jim Phillips made the announcement yesterday.

The cancellations include two home Mid-American Conference basketball games in the NIU Convocation Center. The NIU women were to play Ohio tomorrow and the NIU men were to play Western Michigan on Sunday.

Also, NIU's women's track and field, women's gymnastics, men's and women's tennis, wrestling and men's golf teams will not travel to away competitions this weekend. The Northern Illinois football team also cancelled its "Junior Day" scheduled for Sunday.

The campus remains closed today.
