Check with BBB for storm repair

In light of the recent severe weather in Hawai'i, the Hawai'i Better Business Bureau is reminding residents to be wary of traveling repair crews offering unsolicited emergency repair services to homeowners and businesses.
"These repair crews know demand for service will be high and that local, well-established building repair and roofing companies will be working their crews around the clock," said Dwight Kealoha, chief executive officer of Hawai'i's BBB.
"Some people don't want to wait for estimates on repairs, so when there is a knock on the door from a repair crew, good consumer and business practices are sometimes forgotten."
Checking with the BBB on the reliability of any company can provide information on its business history, including whether the company is a BBB Accredited Business. The BBB also can provide information on a business's principal officers, the business's start date, the number of complaints, and what to do if you experience a problem.
Hawai'i's BBB Web site includes an Accredited Business Directory that lists all local accredited businesses by industry.

KAUA'I PANEL DEADLINE EXTENDED
LIHU'E — The application period for a seat on Kaua'i's Public Access, Open Space, and Natural Resources Preservation Fund Commission has been extended. The new deadline is March 17 at 4:30 pm.
Interested individuals are encouraged to apply. The current vacancy is for an islandwide, "at-large" representative to be chosen by the other eight commission members, four of whom are appointed by the mayor and four by the County Council.
Applicants should be able to attend regularly scheduled commission meetings and have knowledge, interest and/or experience relevant to public access, open space and natural resource issues on Kaua'i.
The Open Space Commission makes annual recommendations to the County Council and administration concerning priority projects for funding from the Public Access, Open Space, and Natural Resources Preservation Fund, which receives a portion of Kaua'i's annual real property taxes.

SMALL-BUSINESS MARKETING CLASS SET
The Hawai'i Women's Business Center will hold a workshop on marketing for small businesses from 9 a.m. to noon Monday at the center's Downtown office, 1041 Nu'uanu Ave., Suite A.
Marketing expert Brad Bate will discuss ways to market a business on a tight budget, as well as review a case study of a top woman-owned Honolulu business and how it is "achieving top-of-mind awareness" in a competitive field.

GO! REPORTS PLANES 58.4 PERCENT FULL
Interisland carrier go! said its planes flew 58.4 percent full in January, virtually unchanged from the same month a year earlier.
go!, a unit of Mesa Air Group Inc., said it carried 43,763 passengers. Its operations generated 11.02 million available seat miles and 6.43 million revenue passenger miles.
Last month, Hawaiian Airlines reported that its trans-Pacific and interisland flights were 87.3 percent filled for all of 2007.
