The Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Foundation has donated $2.1 million to Easter Seals Hawai'i for its new Napuakea program facility in West O'ahu.

The money will go toward construction and maintenance of the Makakilo facility, which is expected to be completed at the end of this year.

The two-story, 20,000-square-foot service center will be able to provide services and programs for more than 600 infants, children, adults and seniors with disabilities and other needs.

John Howell, chief executive officer and president of Easter Seals Hawai'i, said the facility is needed in West O'ahu, where it is seeing the island's highest population growth.

As the state's largest early intervention program, the center will have the capacity to provide physical, occupational and speech therapy, social work/case management and special education to 300 infants, toddlers and their families.

The center will also house the agency's adult, senior and youth programs, including afterschool activities for children and teens.
