Kalaeloa Airport to get 10 new hangar spaces

Private aircraft owners should get some relief with the release of $500,000 in state funds to help construct 10 new T-hangars at Kalaeloa Airport.
Kalaeloa now has two large hangars, both of which were built during World War II and are heavily used by other interests, including a paint shop and the Honolulu Community College's Pacific Aerospace Training Center.
Meanwhile, there are 19 individuals on a waiting list to park their aircraft inside a hangar at the former Barbers Point Naval Air Station.
Gov. Linda Lingle, in releasing the money, said the additional hangar capacity will boost activity at the airport and relieve some of the airfield congestion at Honolulu International Airport.
Two hangars are to be built, with six T-hangars in one and four in the other.
Construction is to be completed by August. The Federal Aviation Administration picked up the bulk of the cost of the construction, which is estimated at $8.2 million.
