KAILUA — President-elect Barack Obama made his usual trek to the gym this morning, the last full day of his vacation in the Islands.

Obama's motorcade left his Kailuana Place rental compound at 7:40 a.m. and arrived at the Semper Fit Center at Marine Corps Base Hawaii within 10 minutes.

He worked out for about an hour, and stopped outside the gym for about three minutes to greet a crowd of at least 100 onlookers who snapped photos and shouted words of support.

"Thank you for your service, guys," Obama told Marines in the crowd.

Among those he was photographed with was 9-month-old Peyton Highfill, the daughter of Kaneohe Bay Marine Travis Highfill.

Peyton's mother, Shanell Highfill, said the family came down in hopes of seeing Obama in person.

"We were just so excited to meet him," said Highfill.

Obama wore a black hat, black athletic pants and a white T-shirt to the gym.

He was accompanied by Chicago friends Valerie Jarrett, Eric Whitaker and Martin Nesbitt.

Obama is to leave Hawaii tomorrow. He will return to Chicago before heading to Washington.
