Waipahu boxer Brian Viloria is now finely tuned.

Viloria completed his year of tune-up bouts with an impressive knockout victory over Mexico's Benjamin Garcia yesterday.

Viloria knocked out Garcia in the second round of a non-title bout at 113 pounds. The fight took place at the Alameda Swap Meet grounds in Los Angeles.

"I knew I needed to let my hands go and attack," Viloria said. "Knowing that I have a championship fight coming up, I didn't want to leave any doubts."

Viloria dropped Garcia with a combination — a left hook followed by a straight right — to the head. The bout was stopped 1 minute, 17 seconds into the second round.

Viloria improved to 24-2 with the 14th knockout of his career. Garcia dropped to 13-11-3. It was only the second time that Garcia had been knocked out.

"This was as good as Brian has ever looked," his manager, Gary Gittelsohn, said. "The knockout was just spectacular."

Viloria went 5-0 in 2008, and is now expected to get a shot at a world championship in March. He was originally scheduled to face Ulisses Solis of Mexico for the IBF light flyweight world championship this month, but it was postponed due to an injury to Solis.

"I didn't let that bother me," Viloria said. "I treated this like a championship fight."

Gittelsohn said a specific date and site have not been set for a title fight, and it may not even be against Solis.
