Prosecutors today accused a 47-year-old Wai'anae man of sexually assaulting a teenage girl.

Mervin Bernabe Gouveia allegedly offered the girl, 15, money for sex in October. The girl reported the sexual encounter to school officials who notified police.

Gouveia surrendered to police at HPD's headquarters building today at 9:50 a.m. He was charged with two counts of third-degree sex assault and one count of promoting prostitution at 4:30 p.m. His bail is $25,000.

Gouveia's criminal record includes eight prior convictions.
