HPU men hold off Holy Names

Jeff Ingram scored 19 points, including the go-ahead 3-pointer with 3:35 to play, as Hawai'i Pacific held off Holy Names (Oakland, Calif.), 73-71, in a non-conference men's basketball game at Mid-Pacific Institute gym.
Jason Curtis added 12 points and 10 assists, and Mike Helton added 11 points for the Sea Warriors (3-2).
Jonathan Kargas scored 17 points for the Hawks (2-10).
Ingram's 3-pointer gave HPU a 68-67 lead. Curtis added a field goal and two free throws, and Ingram a free throw down the stretch to help HPU hold on.

HILO MEN TRIUMPH
Jay DeMaestri had 32 points and 11 rebounds as Hawai'i-Hilo defeated Alaska Fairbanks, 95-90, last night in a non-conference men's game at Hilo civic.
Bryan Ngo added 17 points, including two free throws with 1:11 to play that put the Vulcans (3-1) ahead to stay at 88-86. Perry Baggett scored 13 points and John Smith 11 for Hilo.
Jon Moe scored 34 points, and Nashorn Maynard added 14 points and 13 rebounds for the Nanooks (0-6).
BYUH WOMEN LOSE
Erica Richardson scored 14 points as Wright State defeated Brigham Young-Hawai'i, 71-51, last night in the Hukilau Women's Invitational at Cannon Activities Center in La'ie.
LaShawna Thomas added 11 points for the Raiders (3-4), who trailed 37-35 with less than 13 minutes to play.
Latoya Wily scored 25 points, and Richelle Fenenbock and Mahina Gago each added 11 points for the Seasiders (2-4).
In other Hukilau Invitational games yesterday, San Diego defeated Utah Valley, 81-70, and Brigham Young beat Southern California, 65-64.
BASEBALL
UH CAMPS STILL OPEN
There still are openings for the University of Hawai'i Baseball Winter Camps.
Three sessions in various specialties are available for children ages 7 to 18.
Hawai'i coach Mike Trapasso, his assistants, some players and high school coaches will be conducting the camps at Les Murakami Stadium. Cost is $100 for a single 3-hour camp or $80 per camp if attending two or more 3-hour camps.
The camps are as follows:
Dec. 20 to 21: Pitching/catching, 9 a.m. to noon. Hitting, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Dec. 27 to 28: Hitting, 9 a.m. to noon. Infielders, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Dec. 29 to 30: HItting, 9 a.m. to noon.

TRAMPOLINE
VERCRUYSSEN ADVANCES
Hawai'i's Nani Vercruyssen advanced to today's individual finals of the senior elite trampoline competition at the 2008 Pan American Championships in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Vercruyssen, 16, is competing in her first international event, representing the United States as a senior athlete — 17 years and older.
Eight athletes will compete for three medals today.
