Inoke Funaki named Warriors starting QB against Weber State

Head coach Greg McMackin today announced that Inoke Funaki will be the starting quarterback for the University of Hawai'i football team's home opener against Weber State Saturday at Aloha Stadium.

Funaki completed 8 of 11 passes for 110 yards and UH's lone touchdown in a 56-10 loss to fifth-ranked Florida yesterday.

Funaki entered the game as the Warriors' third-string quarterback.

McMackin said the move gives Funaki a full week to prepare for Weber State.

Greg Alexander started for UH against Florida, completing 11 of 21 passes 57 yards. He was intercepted twice, with one returned for a touchdown.

Brent Rausch was 2 of 7 for 14 yards and an interception.

Funaki is a fourth-year junior from Kahuku High School.

The start of his UH career was delayed when he went on a two-year church mission.

Funaki led Kahuku to a state football title.
