The San Francisco 49ers today waived former University of Hawaii receiver Ashley Lelie as the team got down to the 53-man roster limit.

Leile was injured most of the exhbition season. He returned to play against the San Diego Chargers Friday but did not make a catch.

Lelie is UH's first first-round NFL draft pick. He had a 1,000-yard season while with the Denver Broncos. Lelie was never productive again following a prolonged holdout with Denver.

Leile fell far behind five other receivers, veteran Isaac Bruce, offseason free-agent signee Bryant Johnson, 2007 leading receiver Arnaz Battle, sixth-round pick and preseason star Josh Morgan and Jason Hill, last year's third-round pick.

The 49ers also waived 20 other players and placed one player on injured reserve, according to the team's Web site.

First-year guard Ramiro Pruneda will transfer to the practice squad as part of the NFL's international practice squad program. Linebacker Jay Moore was placed on injured reserve with a biceps injury suffered in the preseason-finale against San Diego.

The 49ers waived six other veterans and eight first-year players and six rookies.

The 49ers waived veterans DT Atiyyah Ellison, LB Dennis Haley, WR Ashley Lelie, FB Moran Norris, DT LaJuan Ramsey, T Alan Reuber and T Joe Toledo.

The 49ers waived first-year players RB Thomas Clayton, CB Markus Curry, DT Walter Curry, WR Robert Ortiz, T Chris Patrick, WR Jerard Rabb, P Ricky Schmitt and WR Dominique Zeigler.

The 49ers also waived rookies WR Cam Colvin, G Brian de la Puente, TE J.J. Finley, LB Larry Grant, DE Louis Holmes and S D.J. Parker.

The 49ers can begin signing players to their practice squad tomorrow.
