INDIANAPOLIS — Oklahoma State point guard Andrea Riley, the Big 12's top scorer, has been reprimanded and suspended by the NCAA for fighting with an LSU player during the Cowgirls' final postseason game last season.

Riley's one-game suspension, which would be served in the first round of the NCAA tournament, stems from an incident involving LSU's Erica White in the regional semifinals. Riley appeared to take a swipe at White's head in the second half, although a foul wasn't called.

"The committee was very disappointed in Ms. Riley's actions and felt that the fighting situation was in violation of the principles of fair play and sportsmanship that are so important in our championship," said Sue Donohoe, NCAA vice president for Division I women's basketball.

Riley averaged 23.1 points and nearly three steals last season, leading Oklahoma State to only its second appearance in the NCAA tournament round of 16. The Cowgirls' 67-52 loss to LSU ended the best season in school history, with Oklahoma State winning a record 27 games and finished 13th in the final poll.

"We play by the rules at Oklahoma State and we respect the decision of the committee," Oklahoma State coach Kurt Budke said. "Andrea Riley is a great player that is becoming an even better person. She will learn from this and move forward."
