BEIJING — Honolulu's Clay Stanley, a Kaiser High and University of Hawai'i alum, had 19 points as the United States topped Russia in five games today to advance to the men's gold medal volleyball match.

The Americans won, 25-22, 25-21, 25-27, 22-25, 15-13.

The United States will face the winner of the other semifinal between Italy and Brazil for the gold medal on Sunday (Saturday at 6 p.m. in Hawai'i). Italy and Brazil played later today.

With the win, the Americans secure their first men's volleyball medal since the bronze won at the 1992 Barcelona Games. The gold medal match appearance is the first for the U.S. since the 1988 Seoul Games, when it won the second of its two consecutive gold medals.
