HAWAII BRIEFS
Meat company recalls some of May's kalua pork

Advertiser Staff

Palama Meat Co. yesterday announced a voluntary recall of kalua pork processed at its Kapolei plant from Aug. 4 to last Thursday when testing detected the presence of a bacterium called listeria monocytogenes.

There has been no report that the recalled products have caused illness, the company said yesterday in a news release.

The recall affects 101 cases of retail May's Hawaii Kalua Brand Pork — item No. 325466 — sold at Sam's Club and Costco in Hawai'i from last Wednesday to yesterday and 81 cases of wholesale May's Kalua Brand Pork, item No. 325469, distributed locally.

Consumers may obtain refunds from the point of purchase.

MILILANI HOMES DAMAGED BY FIRE

Two Mililani townhouses yesterday were damaged by a fire started by plumbers soldering copper piping, according to the Honolulu Fire Department.

The 2 p.m. fire at 95-324 Kaname'e St. was reported under control at 2:17 p.m., HFD spokesman Capt. Earle Kealoha said. No injuries were reported. Damage estimates were not available yesterday, Kealoha said.

The plumbers were working on a remodeling project in a vacant townhouse when the fire started inside a double wall and spread to the roof, Kealoha said, adding that an adjoining unit sustained water damage.
