On the first full day of his Hawai'i vacation yesterday, U.S. Sen. Barack Obama spent some time on the beach and played a round of golf.

After an early morning jog on the beach, where he was photographed greeting local residents, Obama left a private residence in Kailua around 11:45 a.m. for a round of golf at Olomana Golf Links in nearby Waimanalo. With security in tow, Obama climbed aboard a golf cart and began his round just before 12:30 p.m.

He played a round of 18 holes with a group that included long-time friends Marty Nesbitt and Eric Whitaker. A small crowd awaited him near the 18th hole as he completed his round, snapping pictures and trying to get a glimpse of the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee.

Media was kept a safe distance away. Television crews that arrived to catch a glimpse of Obama as he came off the course were shooed away by Olomana security.

Obama left the course around 5:30 p.m. After a quick stop at home, Obama's motorcade left for Honolulu around 6:15.

The traveling party arrived around 6:50 at his grandmother's Punahou-area residence.

Obama, wife Michelle, and daughters Malia and Sasha paid a brief visit before heading to the upscale Alan Wong's restaurant nearby at 7:15. Obama was carrying his younger daughter as they left.
