Hilo wins pool at Juniors regional

Hilo wrapped up the top seed in its pool yesterday by routing Scottsdale, Ariz., 11-0, in the Little League Juniors (ages 13-14) Western Regional at Aliso Viejo, Calif.
Hilo improved to 3-0 with one game remaining in Pool A. Hilo will be off today and will finish up pool play tomorrow against Santa Clara, Utah at 1 p.m. Hawai'i time.
Hilo sent 12 batters to the plate in a six-run first inning and three pitchers combined on a four-hitter against Scottsdale (2-1) in a game shortened to 4 1/2 innings because of the 10-run mercy rule.
Hilo's Ekolu Martens pitched the first three innings for the victory, while Kean Wong had three RBIs and Ridge Hoopii-Haslem drove in two.
Hilo, which has outscored its opponents 32-3 in the tournament, will play the No. 2 seed from Pool B in the semifinals Monday at 1 p.m. The final is the following day at 3:30 p.m.
Hilo and host Aliso Viejo (2-1) could both finish at 3-1, but Hilo would hold the runs differential tie-breaker. They won't play each other in pool play.

Pearl City sent 11 batters to the plate in a seven-run second inning and beat Sacramento, Calif., 9-3, in the Little League Seniors (ages 14-16) Western Regional yesterday at Upland, Calif.
Keanu Sato and Christian Perkins each had three hits for Pearl City, while Reid Ramos and Royce Murai each drove in two runs.
Edwin Izumigawa, Sheldon Milan and Shayne Nakata combined to scatter eight hits for Pearl City (2-0).
Pearl City will play the Alaska-Southern California winner tomorrow at 4 p.m.

MILILANI ROLLS TO 13-3 WIN IN MUSTANG EVENT
Justice Nakagawa batted 2 for 4 with three runs and two RBIs, and Royce Hirayama went 2 for 3 with a homer and two RBIs as Mililani beat Chandler, Ariz., 13-3, in the P.O.N.Y. Mustang (ages 9-10) West Zone Tournament yesterday at Chino Hills, Calif.
Kaimana Bartolome worked the first three innings for the victory and Hirayama pitched the final two in a game shortened to five innings because of the 10-run mercy rule.
Mililani (1-0) will play North City, Calif., today at 2 p.m. Hawai'i time.

Sean Milan and Jimmy Madrid combined on a two-hitter, and Gavin Shon scored the game's only run on a passed ball in the fourth as Mililani beat Hart, Calif., 1-0, in the P.O.N.Y. Bronco (ages 11-12) West Zone Tournament yesterday at Valencia, Calif.
Milan struck out three over the first five innings and Madrid recorded the save by striking out four over the final two.
In the fourth, Shon, a pinch runner, scored from third base on a dropped called third strike to a Mililani batter.
Mililani (1-0) will play Maple Valley, Wash., today at 4 p.m. Hawai'i time.

HAWAI'I DROPS FIRST GAME IN EL SEGUNDO, 6-1
Torrance, Calif., scored four runs in the first and two in the third to beat Hawai'i, 6-1, in the Babe Ruth (ages 13-15) Pacific Southwest Regional yesterday at El Segundo, Calif.
Marcus Yoshii and Kini Enos pitched for Hawai'i (2-1), and Kaeo Aliviado had a double.
Hawai'i will play Yuma, Ariz. (3-1) today at 3 p.m. Hawai'i time.
Torrance (3-0) advances to the final of the double-elimination tournament.

O'AHU KAMIKAZE ROUT NEVADA IN UTAH, 15-5
Korrey Siracusa, Evan Yonamine and Blazsen Ferreira each batted 2 for 3 as the O'ahu Kamikaze beat Nevada, 15-5, at the Cal Ripken (ages 9-under) Western Regional on Wednesday at Panguitch, Utah.
The Kamikaze broke the game open with a six-run fourth inning, which made it 12-5.
Cole Cannon, Ferreira and Blaine DeMello pitched for O'ahu in a game shorted to five innings.
O'ahu (1-1) will play Beaver, Utah today at 8:30 a.m. Hawai'i time.

LAGUNA NIGUEL CLUB REELS IN ANOTHER BIG ONE
Robert Dudley of the leading Laguna Niguel Billfish Club Team 2 made history yesterday with another big catch in the Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament off Kailua, Kona.
Laguna Niguel, a club from Southern California, landed a 695-pound Pacific blue marlin yesterday after reeling in a 973-pounder yesterday.
No team has caught two fish weighing more than 500 pounds in the tournament's 49 years.
Laguna Niguel leads after four days with 2,923 points followed by Hilton Grand Vacations Fishing Club of Japan (2,300) and Laguna Niguel Billfish Club Team 1 of California (1,342).
A total of 23 fish were caught yesterday, including 18 Pacific blue marlin, 16 of which were tagged and released and 5 short nose spearfish, which were all tagged and released.

FUJIKAWA SHOOTS 82; MISSES CUT BY SEVEN
Moanalua High senior Tadd Fujikawa shot a 10-over-par 82 and missed the cut today in the Sun Chlorella Classic at the Otaru Country Club in Hokkaido, Japan.
Fujikawa had one birdie, eight bogeys and one triple bogey in his second round (42-40) and finished at 13-over 157 in the Japan Golf Tour event.
The projected cut was 6-over 150. The round was still underway when this edition went to press.
Takuya Taniguchi (72) and Tesuya Haraguchi (71) shared the lead at 2-under 142.
